Virginia Mountain Biking Opportunities: Meadowood Grand Tour Trail

BLM Mountain Biking: Meadowood Trail System in Virginia

The Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area is in Lorton, VA, approximately 20 miles south of the Nation’s capital. It offers nearly 7 miles of biking trails that are open year-round to the public, from sunrise to sunset. The South Branch Loop Trail is a beginner loop trail that totals 4.7 miles of mixed-use hiking and biking. It is one of only a few natural surface trails open to mountain bikes on public land in the greater Washington, D.C. area. There are three intermediate single-track trails that are solely dedicated to mountain biking: Boss, Stinger, and Yard Sale. The Boss Trails is .85 miles of trail with a great deal of technical variety with wooden and rock features like a 300-foot Progressive Bike Ramp, multiple tabletops, wooden skinnies, and large fast wooden berms. The Yard Sale Trail (known as downhill pump track) is a fun, fast, free flowing trail that totals .67 miles with table tops and a wooden platform. The Stinger Trail starts with a fast downhill section that weaves through mixed hardwood forest from Beeches to Pine Trees.

The trails were constructed in partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE), the Trail Solutions (TS) Team from the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA), and the American Hiking Society (AHS). One of the Bureau of Land Management's "Backyard to Backcountry" treasures, information on the Meadowood Grand Tour was developed between IMBA and the Lower Potomac Field Office, to provide world-class riding experiences. IMBA's data on the trail includes elevations, ratings, current conditions, photos, and comments.
