Things To Do

Camping

Camping is one of the many ways visitors enjoy the beauty and diversity of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. The Hyatt Lake Recreational Area’s campsites can be reserved on www.recreation.gov. The campground is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Dispersed camping, or camping outside the Monument's developed campground, is also allowed.

Backpacking is a popular activity in the Monument. Please practice Leave No Trace principles at all times. Always be aware of the latest fire conditions for southern Oregon.

Climbing

Technical rock climbing in Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is only allowed on Pilot Rock. The south face of Pilot Rock provides some of the best traditional technical climbing in southwestern Oregon. There are seven routes on Pilot Rock, and four of them have conservatively placed fixed anchors. To protect peregrine falcons and their nests, the south and east sides of Pilot Rock are closed from February 1 to July 30 each year. New fixed anchors cannot be placed without prior BLM authorization.
