San Rafael Swell Recreation Area Advisory Council

MEETING NOTICE

The Bureau of Land Management will hold an in-person/virtual public meeting of the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area Advisory Council on November 20, 2024 at the Castle Dale City Hall building at 20 South 100 East, Castle Dale, Utah. There will not be a field tour for this meeting.

The public meeting is part of the council's ongoing effort to engage the public in the management of the Recreation Area. The Council encourages everyone to attend the event and to participate in the discussion of the Swell.

The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m. A half-hour comment period, during which the public may address the Council, will take place at 2:00 p.m. The meeting agenda will be released at least 14 days in advance of the meeting. Council Information

The San Rafael Swell Recreation Area (Recreation Area) Advisory Council (Council) was outlined in the John Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act which became law on March 12, 2019. The Recreation Area Advisory Council will advise the BLM on the preparation and implementation of the management plan for the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area.

Recreation Area Council members include: 

  1. A representative of the Emery County Commission;
  2. A representative of motorized recreational users;
  3. A representative of non-motorized recreational users;
  4. A representative of grazing allotment permittees within the Recreation Area or wilderness areas designated;
  5. A representative of conservation organizations;
  6. A representative with expertise in the historical uses of the Recreation Area; and
  7. An elected leader of a federally recognized tribe that has significant cultural or historic connections to, and expertise in, the landscape, archeological sites, or cultural sites within the County.

The designated federal official is the BLM's Green River District Manager Elijah Waters.
