Eagle Lake Field Office

Public lands managed by the Eagle Lake Field Office cover approximately one million acres in northeastern California and northwestern Nevada. The area offers an amazing diversity including forests, peaceful lake shorelines, scenic river canyons and expansive high deserts. These areas provide myriad recreational opportunities, and other uses including timber harvesting and livestock grazing that help meet the food and fiber needs of our nation.

Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail
The Bizz Johnson Trail is in northeastern California, along the Susan River in Lassen County. The main trailhead is at the old Railroad Depot in the City of Susanville, about 90 miles north of Reno and about 90 miles east of Red Bluff, California. The trail has four distinct seasons because of the high elevation location.

Fort Sage OHV Area
The Fort Sage Off-Highway Vehicle Area is located in the high desert region of northeastern California outside the town of Doyle. The area is about 45 miles south of Susanville, California and 45 miles north of Reno, Nevada.

Bald Mountain Non-Motorized Trails
The Bald Mountain Trail system is located on the eastern end of low ridge (1,000 feet of vertical) that extends from the foothills of Diamond Mountain east out into the northwest end of Honey Lake Valley just 15 miles east of Susanville, CA.

Skedaddle Wilderness Study Area
The WSA is located on the northwestern edge of the arid Great Basin, characterized by eroded volcanic mountains and expansive desert valleys (the remains of ancient lake beds). The WSA comprises an area approximately 10 by 12 miles.

Notices

The Bureau of Land Management, Eagle Lake Field Office will be undergoing a remodel beginning June 15th, 2024. The BLM is collocated with the Forest Service at 2550 Riverside Drive, Susanville, CA. The main public entrance to the building will remain open through most or all of the construction period, however most BLM employees will be working from alternative work sites. All BLM employees will remain available by email or phone. Please use caution when entering the parking area during the construction.
