Arcata Field Office

The Arcata Field Office is responsible for the administration of natural resources, lands, and mineral programs on over 200,000 acres of public land in Northwestern California. The Area includes the King Range National Conservation Area, Headwaters Forest Reserve and the Trinidad Gateway to the California Coastal National Monument.

King Range National Conservation Area
The NCA encompasses 68,000 acres along 35 miles of coastline roughly 200 miles north of San Francisco. An abrupt wall of mountains towers 4,000 feet above this spectacular and remote stretch of the 'Lost
Coast'.

Lacks Creek Management Area
Lacks Creek is a recreational treasure hidden in the coast range and offers a wide range of outdoor opportunities. Ride your horse or bike along the shared use trails, or find your own secluded campsite with a view.

California Coastal National Monument
Connecting the Pacific Ocean with the land, the California Coastal National Monument provides unique coastal habitat for marine-dependent wildlife and vegetation on more than 20,000 rocks, islands, exposed reefs and pinnacles along the California coastline, as well as 7,924 acres of public land in six onshore units.

Samoa Dunes
As a visitor to this 300 acre park you may take advantage of a wide variety of recreational activities, including hiking, surfing, fishing, sightseeing, beachcombing, off-highway vehicle (OHV) use, picnicking, and birdwatching.

Headwaters Forest Preserve
The 7,472-acre Headwaters Forest Reserve was established in 1999 after a decade-long grassroots effort to protect the world’s last unprotected, intact, old-growth redwood forest ecosystem.

Ma-le'l Dunes
The Ma-‘e’l Dunes offers a range of recreational opportunities that allow visitors to experience a diverse and dynamic coastal landscape of forests and salt marshes, sand dunes and beaches.

5/18/2024 - The BLM is implementing new fees for recreation sites in the King Range National Conservation Area on the North Coast, and for the Steiner Flat and Ohl Olsen campgrounds managed by the Redding Field Office, to improve access to public lands, enhance public health and safety, and better protect natural resources. Hunting and shooting are prohibited at the Lost Coast Headlands.
