Utah Advisory Councils
General RAC Overview
BLM Utah currently works with the Utah Resource Advisory Council (RAC), the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area Advisory Council, and two Monument Advisory Committees, one for the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM) and the other for the Bears Ears National Monument (BENM). A Monument Advisory Committee (MAC) is a type of RAC.
The San Rafael Swell Recreation Area Advisory Council is a seven-member council. The Utah RAC and the two MACs each consist of 15 members. All four of these advisory groups consist of members chosen for their expertise in natural resource issues and knowledge of the state or area they represent. Together, they help BLM Utah carry out its stewardship of 23 million acres of public lands. Members include individuals involved with conservation, ranching, outdoor recreation, industry, state and local government, tribal lands, and academia. Diverse membership ensures that BLM Utah land managers are provided with the varying perspectives needed to achieve their multiple-use mission.
Advisory Council meetings are open to the public and meetings are announced in the Federal Register and through news releases. Meeting notifications generally include the date(s), time(s), location(s), a list of key topics to be discussed, the time of open periods for the public to directly address the advisory council, and other additional pertinent information. Members of the public are responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and meals.
