McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area

The McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area (NCA) was created in 2000 by the Colorado Canyons National Conservation Area and Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Act. The name was changed through congressional legislation to McInnis Canyons NCA in 2005. McInnis Canyons is part of the Grand Junction Field Office.

Herbicide Treatment, September 2024

The BLM will apply an aerial herbicide over approximately 800 acres to treat invasive cheat grass in the High North area of the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, including just outside the High North Campground. The treatment will begin in September and is dependent on specific weather conditions. Once appropriate conditions are identified, and aircraft mobilized, campsites will not be available for reservation. Signage on the ground will also ask the public to temporarily avoid the area for approximately 24 hours while treatment is underway. The treatment is part of an Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation Plan that was enacted following the Rabbit Valley Fire in June 2024 that burned over 1,500 acres. Please contact the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area for additional information.
