Amarillo Field Office

January 20, 2023 update:  The Amarillo Field Office is now closed. The BLM has a handful of employees supporting Helium Operations as a collateral duty. Operation of the Federal Helium System continues under two separate operations and maintenance contracts, until GSA completes the Disposal Phase of the Helium Stewardship Act.

The Amarillo Field Office administers the Federal Helium Program and is responsible for the conservation and sale of federally owned helium. The BLM operates and maintains a helium storage reservoir, enrichment plant, and pipeline system near Amarillo, Texas, that supplies over 27% percent of domestic  and 16% of global demand for helium.
