Ranger-led Education Programs – April 15th through June 14th. Ranger-led programs (2 hours in length) offer teachers and students the opportunity to participate in guided exploration of the intertidal area using standards linked to state curriculum.

Teacher-led Education Programs – Year Round. Teachers/Professors are welcome to explore Yaquina Head with their students by coming prepared with educational outcomes in mind. *Note: April 15th – June 14th priority will be given to ranger-led groups. Reservations during this time are not guaranteed to be accepted due to limited tidepool capacity. All of this wilderness is located in Oregon and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service. The White River rises in the high Cascades in western Wasco County, in the Mount Hood National Forest on the southeast flank of Mount Hood. The headwaters are just below White River Glacier in White River Canyon. Additions to the Mount Hood Wilderness protect upper portions of the river, while the Lower White River Wilderness, southeast of the Mount hood Wilderness and east of highway 26, protects a segment of lower river stretch.Yaquina Head Tidepool Yaquina Head Tidepool Yaquina Head Tidepool Yaquina Head Wildlife Yaquina Head Wildlife

Winter Beach Safety

Winter weather along the coast can be dramatic, beautiful and extremely dangerous. Please hold onto car doors when getting in and out. On beaches high surf and sneaker waves can knock walkers off their feet. Never turn your back on the ocean and keep children within arm’s reach.

  • High winds yank car doors from hands and make walking difficult.
  • Sneaker waves—sudden tidal surges—can strike at any time knocking walkers off their feet and into the cold Pacific.
  • High surf leaves little beach exposed for walking.
  • Never turn your back on the ocean and keep children within arms' reach.
