BLM Hosts Successful Adoption Event in Checotah, Oklahoma
BLM staff had a great time meeting new adopters and catching up with previous adopters at the Checotah, OK, Wild Horse and Burro Adoption June 21-22. This is the third year in a row the New Mexico Team has held an adoption in Checotah, a small community in eastern Oklahoma. The event welcomed past adopters who entertained staff with stories about their adopted animals. Staff also had the pleasure of meeting new adopters and educating them on program. BLM staff presented 144 animals to the public for adoption and all 144 animals were placed into private care!
The event also served as a pickup location for the Wild Horse and Burro Program’s Online Corral adoption, where 23 animals were picked up by their online adopters.
In total, the seven-member BLM team successfully loaded 167 animals out to their adopters through this event!
“Satellite adoptions are an example of different aspects of the Wild Horse and Burro Program coming together for success,” said New Mexico Wild Horse and Burro Program Manager and State Lead Pat Williams.
“Successful adoption events like this would not be possible without the amazing staff who gather these beautiful animals. Without them, Wild Horse and Burros Specialists who handle adoption corrals and satellite events would not be able to place these animals into private care,” “Satellite adoption events, like the one in Checotah, are truly a team effort which take a lot of effort and coordination, said Williams.
