Rural Fire Readiness: Parowan Fire Department Fire Engine Transfer
Last week, Color Country and Paria River District fire managers completed transfer of a Type 4 Fire Engine to Parowan Fire Department as part of BLM Utah’s Rural Fire Readiness (RFR) program. Parowan Fire Chief Dave Schiers met with district fire personnel to take possession of and learn the standard operations of the wildland fire engine at the Color Country Interagency Fire Center, located in Cedar City, Utah
“Many fire departments in southwest Utah operate in remote areas and are instrumental in bolstering our interagency priority of protecting communities at risk of wildfire.” said Josh Tibbetts, Color Country and Paria River District Fire Management Officer.
The RFR program is designed to support local, volunteer, and rural fire departments with wildland firefighting equipment at no cost. Equipment can include wildland fire engines and water tenders, radios, pumps, fire hose, chainsaws, hand tools, personal protective equipment, and training. This equipment consists of items the agency no longer needs and is transferred to fire departments that have an existing cooperative agreement with BLM.
