A firebreak along Cimarron Road during the Gold Mountain Fire served another purpose, too: putting removed trees to use.

Early this June, IWJV coordinated a workshop in Thermopolis, Wyoming, to explore post-wildfire rehabilitation, emergency response and coordination efforts between federal agencies, state partners, and private landowners.

The moment the fire hit the Pothole South fuel break, its behavior changed dramatically. The advancing flame front lost intensity, the towering smoke column laid down, and firefighters were able to safely and effectively engage.

In August 2025, crews battled the Monroe Canyon fire to save a 1920s mining site. While 4 structures fell, Hotshot Captain Almanzo Wenig and his crew cleared lines and used water drops to save the final miner's cabin.
