DIAMOND BREAKS WILDERNESS STUDY AREA
Values
The Diamond Breaks WSA is located in the Diamond Mountains, a broken, mountainous land mass in the eastern extension of the Uinta Ridge. A series of colorful, rugged, red sandstone ridges and steep draws "break" toward the Green River to the north in Browns Park. The Diamond Breaks WSA provides a dramatic, scenic, mountainous background as viewed from Browns Park along the Green River. Vegetation consists mainly of sagebrush, pinyon-juniper, aspen, mountain brush, Douglas fir, limber pine, and ponderosa pine. Fauna includes fox, coyote, black bear, mountain lion, mule deer, elk, raptors and various songbirds, gopher snakes, and western diamondbacks. Significant cultural resources, such as rock art, granaries, rock shelters, and lithic scatter sites related to prehistoric and historic occupation are found within the WSA. The WSA provides outstanding opportunities for photography, nature study, viewing wildlife, hiking, backpacking and enjoying our cultural heritage.
Visitation Information
The Diamond Breaks WSA is located in Moffat County, approximately 65 miles northwest of Maybell and 95 miles northwest of Craig, and extends into Daggett County in Utah.
