Deer Creek Wilderness Study Area
Values
The Deer Creek WSA is one of five WSAs within the Mount Bennett Hills, a rolling belt of foothills between the Sawtooth Mountains to the north and the Snake River Plains to the south. The WSA is located southwest of Davis Mountain, one of the highest points in the Bennett Hills, dominated by steep hills and rhyolite and basalt outcrops. The higher elevations have aspen, tobacco brush, Indian paintbrush and lupine. Elk, deer, bear, coyotes, birds of prey and upland game birds can be seen here.
Visitation Information
In Idaho, BLM manages over 7,000 acres of public lands in the Deer Creek Wilderness Study Area. Visitors here can enjoy hiking, nature study, photography and hunting. The variety of environments provides visual interest for both the hiker and those involved in nature study.
Visitor Advisory
Deer Creek WSA is most easily accessed via Davis Mountain Road or Bliss Hill City Road. Visitors should consult a map and be prepared for unmaintained two-track roads and rugged backcountry travel.
