Oregon-Washington Air Program
Meeting the agency's commitments under the Clean Air Act is the focus of the Air Program.
The BLM partners with the Oregon Smoke Management program to conduct prescribed burns that minimize impacts to local air quality. The program helps the BLM manage their burning program to prevent smoke from drifting into sensitive airsheds and communities. In southwestern Oregon, the BLM conducts prescribed burns to stop the spread of the tree disease Sudden Oak Death. The Coos Bay District coordinates the burn timing with Oregon Smoke Management to ensure it occurs during favorable weather that will minimize air quality problems.
