Trails Center announces Fall History Club classes

CASPER, Wyo. – The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center is inviting young historians to participate in free interactive youth programs throughout the fall.
At 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, the Trails Center’s Hands-on History Club fall lineup will kick off with a lesson on a crucial a homesteader skill – cooking dinner. Students will explore the daily chore of making chow with this Dutch-oven cooking class. Come learn how the pioneers adapted and modified their meals for the whole family while travelling, then practice pioneer cooking skills while working as a group to prepare a snack in the Dutch oven.
History Club is geared for children ages seven through eleven, but all are welcome. Lessons are held monthly from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. unless otherwise noted on the following Saturdays.
Program Schedule:
- September 16 - Homesteading Skills: Dutch Oven Cooking
- October 21 - Outlaws of the West
Help catch the notorious outlaws of the West with skillfully designed wanted posters. - November 18 - Pioneer Engineering: Wagon Building
- Learn about the parts of the wagon and how they functioned while building miniature replicas in this STEM program.
- December 16 - Holiday Tea Party (1-3 p.m. - registration required)
Celebrate the holidays with friends and family at the Trails Center with a Victorian Tea Party. Students and their guests will role play a tea party from the 1800s, including games, tea and snacks. Space is limited and registration is required. Register by emailing samoore@blm.gov, including number of participants and youth’s ages.
Students must be accompanied by a chaperone. History Club is free, and while not required, reservations are greatly appreciated and encouraged.
