CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Visit the BLM’s wild horse adoption event at Cheyenne Frontier Days for your chance to adopt a halter- or saddle-started Wyoming wild horse. The BLM will offer approximately 24 wild horses for adoption, all of which were gathered from Wyoming Herd Management Areas and have received training at the Mantle Ranch and Wild Horse Adoption Facility in Wheatland, Wyoming. The BLM is committed to placing healthy horses into caring homes and maintaining healthy wild horse herds on sustainable, multiple-use public lands.

The BLM will offer the horses for adoption by competitive bid on July 27, beginning with a preview of the horses from 9 – 11 a.m. Bidding will begin at 11:30 a.m. Successful adopters will load out their horses after the adoption on July 27 or on July 28 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The BLM will accept payments by cash, credit or check.

New this year, the BLM will also accept online bids from interested adopters who cannot attend the July 27 event in person. To qualify for the online auction, please complete the standard adoption application and submit it to adoptawywildhorse@blm.gov. Within 24 hours, you will receive an email confirming your eligibility, which will also contain an assigned bidder number that you will use to join the live internet auction on July 27 at https://longhornvideoauctions.com/. Online bidders must register by July 25 at 4 p.m.

From July 19 – 26, visit the BLM wild horse adoption corrals near Old Frontier Town at Cheyenne Frontier Days to learn more about the horses, the Mantle Ranch training facility, the BLM Wild Horse & Burro Program and more. The Mantle Ranch will provide training demonstration at the corrals from 10  - 11:30 a.m. and from 4 – 5:30 p.m. each day during this period.

To learn more about the BLM’s multiple-use mission, visit the General Land Office at Old Frontier Town from July 19 – 28. This year, we’re celebrating Smokey Bear’s 75th birthday with special displays and materials. Smokey Bear will also stop by the General Land Office for a card signing on July 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Any horses that are not adopted during the adoption event will be available for adoption, by appointment, at the Mantle Ranch. The Mantles have over 26 years of professional experience gentling horses. Safety, patience and consistency are their top priorities in the training process.
