Subject: BLM Strategic Plan for Threatened and Endangered Species, 2022-2027
This Information Bulletin transmits the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Strategic Plan for Threatened and Endangered Species (Attachment). The goals of the strategic plan are to advance special status species (i.e., threatened, endangered, and Bureau sensitive species) conservation and recovery; increase success through collaboration with partners; prioritize budget and staffing; and prioritize communication and outreach.
The strategic plan will help to implement the Federal Land Policy and Management Act’s direction to manage the public lands to provide habitat for fish and wildlife. Over 330 threatened and endangered species and 2,430 Bureau sensitive species occur on BLM-managed lands. By proactively and collaboratively contributing to the management and sustainability of special status species and their habitats, the BLM will enhance recovery of Endangered Species Act (ESA) listed species, preclude the need for listing under the ESA, and develop and maintain partnerships, while promoting biodiversity and ecologically resilient landscapes.
Questions regarding the BLM Strategic Plan for Threatened and Endangered Species should be directed to David Jenkins, Assistant Director, Resources and Planning, at djenkins@blm.gov or (970) 256-4951, or your staff may contact Stephanie Miller, Acting Deputy Division Chief, Division of Wildlife Conservation, Aquatics, and Environmental Protection, at smiller@blm.gov or (202) 317-0086.
