For our record of the week brought to you by BLM's General Land Office, we go back to 1898 and this survey plat of Tullahassee, Oklahoma.
What makes Tullahassee special? Primarily that it is believed to be the oldest surviving all-black town in Oklahoma. In 1898 there were about 50 residents of the town just outside of Muskogee. In the early 20th century the population grew to a max of around 200.
These days the population has dipped below 100, but there are current efforts underway to revitalize the area.
