As America marks its 250th anniversary, the Bureau of Land Management is celebrating in Oregon by connecting communities with public lands that help tell the nation’s story.

The morning air still carried a cool bite when the first young anglers arrived at the Kemmerer Community Fishing Pond on June 13. By 7 a.m., the banks were alive with the sound of reels spinning, lines sailing through the air, and the kind of barely contained excitement that only a kid with a fishing rod can produce.

Oil‑painted feathers perched on a still pond, mottled acrylic daubs on the breast of a flying Northern Shoveler, and spirited renditions of North American waterfowl. All on display at the Virginia Junior Duck Stamp Contest held on March 28.

Through classroom visits, community events, and demonstrations, Bureau of Land Management wildlife biologist Joelle Acton helps people understand the reptiles that share the Mohave Desert landscape.

Fifth‑grade students from the Crystal Springs, Mississippi area explored the wonders of conservation, geology, and natural resource stewardship during Environmental Day at Chautauqua Park.
