TWIN FALLS, Idaho – Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Twin Falls District staff, the Southern Idaho Off-Road Association, Magic Valley ATV riders and Jerome County will host a cleanup day for the north rim of the Snake River Canyon on Saturday, May 18.

Volunteers are welcome and encouraged to join the cleanup effort, which will begin at 8 a.m. and wrap up around 2 p.m. Participants should dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves along with rakes and square end shovels to help with the cleanup—garbage bags will be provided. The plan is to meet at the Snake River Canyon Park kiosk area along Golf Course Road in Jerome.

The annual cleanup has taken place for the past 25 years and BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner David Freiberg noted this effort has dramatically changed the appearance of the north rim of the Snake River Canyon over the years. Unfortunately, several areas within the Snake River Canyon Park continue to be littered with illegally dumped and shot up trash. These specific areas will be the focus of Saturday’s event.

“We are incredibly grateful for this long-term partnership that has made such a difference in this special area along the Snake River Canyon rim,” stated Freiberg. “This 25-year effort has played such an important role in our management efforts to help ensure public lands remain clean, safe, and beautiful.”

“We are here to keep Idaho clean and beautiful. We appreciate all the efforts of the volunteers and our club members for stepping up,” said Jack Hartmann, President of the Southern Idaho Off-Road Association. “The Snake River Canyon Board is heading up a multi-million-dollar park project, and we want to do our part to keep this area clean for all to enjoy.”

Western State Cat will donate the use of its heavy equipment to haul out the huge volumes of trash, and Southern Idaho Solid Waste donates roll-off dumpsters to aid the cleanup efforts.

The Southern Idaho Off-Road Association will provide a pizza lunch for volunteers.
