Event Description

The Bureau of Land Management Safford Field Office is planning on having its annual National Public Lands Day event at Dankworth Village Heritage Education Site, in partnership with Arizona State Parks and Trails. The event will take place on Saturday, October 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This site was developed back in the early 1990s as part of the BLM's Heritage Education initiative and is now in a state of disrepair. The goal is to restore the exhibits and dwellings, perform trail maintenance, and repair signage.

Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Dankworth Pond State Park and walk 0.62 miles to arrive at the project location. There will be approximately five work projects to choose from including trail maintenance, pit house restoration, and exhibit reconstructions. Project work is estimated to range from 1-5 hours depending on the project.

Volunteers should wear clothes appropriate for outdoor work, such as closed-toe shoes, pants, sun protection, and a bring water bottle. The Bureau of Land Management will supply personal protective equipment, tools, project materials, water, light refreshments, and lunch at the conclusion of the event.

Please register in advance for the event.
