Notice of Draft Resource Management Plans and Environmental Impact Statement for the Newcastle and Nebraska Planning Areas
The Bureau of Land Management has prepared Draft Resource Management Plans and an Environmental Impact Statement for the Newcastle and Nebraska planning areas. Publication of a notice of availability in tomorrow's Federal Register will initiate a 90-day public comment period.
The proposed revision would replace the existing 23-year-old Newcastle RMP that guides the management of approximately 287,900 acres of public lands and 1.7 million acres of federal mineral estate managed by the BLM in Crook, Weston, and Niobrara counties in Wyoming. BLM also proposes to revise the 31-year-old Nebraska resource management plan, which includes 5,100 surface acres and 223,900 acres of federal mineral estate across the state of Nebraska.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
