Event Description

ELKO, Nev. – A prescribed fire is planned for multiple days between April 21, 2025 through May 9, 2025, on public land approximately 26 miles north of Battle Mountain, Nevada.

This prescribed fire is designed to reduce the accumulation of tumbleweed along existing fence lines. The project goals are to increase wildlife movement, decrease the risk of a damaging wildland fire, and improve wildlife habitat.

Resources on the project may consist of several wildland firefighters, one fire-suppression equipped utility vehicle and command personnel. The planned fire will only take place when weather conditions are in accordance with the prescribe fire plan. The area will not be closed to public access during the planned fire, and roads will remain open. Previous burns in this fuel type and area have proven to be of short duration with minimal smoke impacts.
