The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments to update how the agency will manage wild burros in the Bullfrog Herd Management Area surrounding the town of Beatty in the Mojave Desert of southcentral Nevada. The 30-day public review and comment period begins Feb. 20, 2025.

The management area includes more than 146,700 acres of BLM-managed public lands. It also encompasses nearly 10,500 acres of mixed private and other public lands.

Wild burros were originally brought to North America by Spanish explorers in the 15th century. They have long ears, a short mane, and reach a height of up to 5 feet at the shoulders and can range in size from 400 to 500 pounds.

Additional information, including an environmental assessment, is available at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments can be submitted through the “Participate Now” option. The comment period will close March 24, 2025.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
