Johnson (Gordy's) Hill
Johnson (Gordy's) Hill offers diverse recreation opportunities, including many roads and trails traversing deeply dissected canyons, high sandstone and limestone bluffs, terraces, and escarpments. On the higher ridges, there are scenic views of the Rio Grande Valley to the west. There are a variety of recreational opportunities, including off-highway vehicle riding on existing routes, offering challenges for all experience levels. The Quebradas Backcountry Byway divides the area from west to east and provides excellent opportunities for driving and photography.

Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)
- Johnson (Gordy's) Hill is composed of intersecting roads and trails made of dirt and rock. This road is uneven, goes up and downhill, and other vehicles may be traveling the road.
- To hike the area, one needs to be able to walk across uneven, silty ground for several miles while exposed to the elements and avoiding other recreators on horseback or in an OHV.
- This area does not have any ADA-compliant facilities or interpretive displays. This area can be traveled by horseback or an OHV. One needs to be able to observe and maneuver around others recreating in the area.

Take Exit 152 (Escondida Exit) off of I-25 and follow NM-408 (Slaton Road) for 1.5 miles, then turn right onto Pueblitos Rd. and head east for three-quarters of a mile, passing over the Rio Grande River to the Y-intersection. Turn left onto Johnson Hill Road and travel on this road for about a mile. The sign for the staging area will be on the right.
