CASPER, Wyo. – Join the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 5 to create your own pioneer-style braided rug to keep your floors warm this winter. The workshop is free to the public, but registration is required.

Wool rug braiding uses scrap material to make useful household necessities. A time-honored tradition in early America, the pioneers travelling the historic trails brought with them this useful craft to create rugs capable of lasting a century.

“I had the opportunity to learn this pioneer skill from other knowledgeable, skilled women and hope to encourage others to keep the craft alive,” says BLM education technician Stacey Moore.

Registration is currently open to a limited number of participants. Donated scrap wool will be provided for a starter project, but participants will need to purchase other required materials prior to the class. A list of items will be emailed upon registration.

To register for the workshop, please contact Stacey Moore at (307) 261-7780 or samoore@blm.gov.

The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center is open 7 days a week from 8 am to 5 pm MST.
1501 N Poplar St., Casper, WY 82601.

Admission is Free
