CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah has selected Gloria Tibbetts—a seasoned planning and public policy professional with a long history of working in western states and communities—to serve as the district manager for the Color Country District, based in Cedar City.
Tibbetts recently served as the planning and environmental coordinator for the district. Before that she served as an associate district manager in Colorado, as well as a field manager, assistant field manager and as a national project manager.
“Gloria came to Color Country with fantastic credentials, then proved her abilities by taking on challenging high-profile projects, finding ways to bring harmony and solutions to issues with diverse opinions and views,” said BLM Utah State Director Greg Sheehan. “In a place where public lands are critical to our communities and our nation, Gloria is the right person to lead the Color Country team and responsibly manage those public lands for the years to come.”
Tibbetts takes the helm of a district that stretches from the Arizona state line to Henry Mountains, covering eight counties in southern and central Utah: Washington, Iron, Beaver, Piute, Wayne, Garfield, Sevier and Sanpete.
"I am honored to have been chosen to lead the Color Country team. I look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationships with partners as we work together to support our local communities and manage the diverse and exceptional resources here in Southern Utah," shared Color Country District Manager Gloria Tibbetts.
Tibbetts began her career with the BLM as a seasonal firefighter on an engine in Caliente, Nevada, in 2002. She has worked for the BLM in Nevada, Arizona, Colorado and now Utah, and in communities that ranged from Battle Mountain, Nevada, to Phoenix, Arizona.
She grew up in rural western Washington state, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Colorado Boulder and earned a master’s degree and graduate certificate from the University of Texas Arlington. Tibbetts shares her love for everything outdoors with her husband and two children.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
