Cheyenne, Wyoming – The Deerwood Wild Horse Eco-Sanctuary, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, will host a free public day and wild horse adoption on June 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The eco-sanctuary shares the BLM’s commitment to place excess wild horses and burros into private care in order to maintain healthy animals on sustainable, working rangelands.

The Deerwood Wild Horse Eco-Sanctuary provides a natural and free-roaming environment for excess wild horses removed from public rangelands, as part of an agreement between the BLM and Deerwood.

This event will feature trailer tours every half hour to view over 300 wild horses; wild horse training demonstrations, and information and vendor booths.

The Steve Mantle Training Facility will showcase four halter-trained yearling wild horses that will be available for adoption. Silent bids may be made throughout the event, with bidding closing at 2 p.m.

Wild horse eco-sanctuaries help the BLM care for excess wild horses that have been removed from overpopulated herds roaming Western public rangelands. They provide opportunities for people to learn more about the complexities of the wild horse and burro program, and to experience a piece of our shared American heritage.

The Deerwood Wild Horse Eco-Sanctuary is located at 599 State Highway 11. It offers tours to see the horses and other educational opportunities from May through September each year. For more information about the event, contact the eco-sanctuary at 307-399-9956.
