Winnemucca, Nev. --The Winnemucca District will have Christmas tree cutting permits available for purchase from Nov. 15 until Dec. 24.  Permits are available by appointment at the District Office, 5100 E. Winnemucca Blvd., Monday through Friday, by email at wfoweb@blm.gov or via phone, 775-623-1500.

Christmas tree permits are $5 each, with a limit of 10 per person and are for individual use only. The following forms of payment will be accepted: check, cash or credit card. Permits are also available at the Pershing County Farm Service Agency, located at 110 American Blvd., Lovelock, NV, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The permit allows the purchaser to cut trees on Bureau of Land Management administered lands. Pinyon Pine and Juniper are the only tree species that can be harvested on BLM-administered lands.

Upon purchase, a map of tree cutting areas will be provided along with the stipulations of the permit. McKinney Pass and Kitten Springs in the Stillwater Range are good access areas for pinyon pine and juniper Christmas tree cutting. Please pay attention to marked boundary areas in the field and on the provided map; there is a large portion of Fencemaker Canyon that is restricted from Christmas tree cutting. Juniper is widespread and there are numerous areas for harvesting juniper Christmas trees on multiple mountain ranges.

For more information regarding the purchase of Christmas tree permit please contact Derek Messmer, Winnemucca District BLM Fuels Program Manager at (775) 623-1500.
