ANCHORAGE – The Bureau of Land Management today published a notice that the United States Air Force has applied for a 20-year extension of a public land order that would provide the military services with continued exclusive use of lands for tactical training on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

The notice announces a 90-day public comment period and the opportunity to request public meetings regarding the proposed withdrawal extension.

The public land order (No. 6244) specifically relates to the Davis Range Complex on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, which is adjacent to the Muldoon area and Far North Bicentennial Park.  A key area on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Davis Range supports small unit maneuver, a close-quarters combat facility, and vehicle convoy live-fire training.

The BLM processes land withdrawal applications on behalf of the Secretary of the Interior.  Through the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, Congress authorized the Secretary of the Interior to make, modify, extend and revoke withdrawals of Federal land, even on behalf of other agencies.

Requests for a public meeting should be sent to Alaska State Director, BLM Alaska State Office, 222 West Seventh Avenue, No. 13, Anchorage, Alaska 99513-7504 or by email to blm_ak_state_director@blm.gov.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
