LAS VEGAS — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Southern Nevada District announces a public comment period for the draft Recreation Area Management Plan and Environmental Assessment for the Harris Springs area. The public comment period is open from January 19, 2022, to February 18, 2022.

The plan guides future development and provide management direction for recreation resources within the Harris Springs area, located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area northwest of Las Vegas, south of Nevada State Route 157.

In 2013, the Carpenter I fire burned a large area of public land within the area. The result left an open area with little to no vegetation.

“There has been an exponential growth in activities in the area that have created disturbances causing damages to the natural resources that need to be addressed,” said Josh Travers, Red Rock/Sloan Field Office Assistant Manager. “This plan addresses recreational uses, designated and unauthorized roads, vegetation rehabilitation and informational kiosks and signage.”

A virtual public meeting will be held February 1, 2022, starting at 6 p.m. Pacific Time. Registration for the forum, and more information on the area, is available at https://www.virtualpublicmeeting.com/harrisspringsramp-home. Those unable to attend the meeting, or wish to provide comments later, may email BLM_NV_SNDO_RR_HarrisSpringRamp@blm.gov until February 18, 2022, at 4:30 p.m.
