CARRIZOZO, N.M. - On Oct. 23, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Roswell Field Office will temporarily close the Valley of Fires Recreation Area shower house to upgrade facilities. The closure is necessary for the safety and enjoyment of the public, employees, and contractors. The BLM expects to reopen the area within six to eight weeks, after construction is complete. During this time, the campground’s campsites, trail and vault toilets will remain open.

“The BLM is continuing to enhance recreational opportunities by improving areas such as the Valley of Fires Recreation Area,” said BLM Roswell Field Office Outdoor Recreation Planner Jesse Vinson. “We are replacing the plumbing in the shower house and upgrading the facilities to benefit visitors.”

Construction improvements will include replumbing the shower house and toilets, as well as making necessary upgrades to the restroom infrastructure. The BLM will monitor the daily work and post signs to advise the public of the closure. The recreation area’s visitor center and bookstore are open most weeks from Friday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call 575-648-2241 for more information.

In addition, for more information, the public can contact the BLM Roswell Field Office at 575-627-0272.
