LAS VEGAS – The Bureau of Land Management Las Vegas Field Office is seeking public comment on a proposal to lease approximately 10 acres of public land to the City of Las Vegas for a public park and related facilities.  The park is proposed near the intersection of Iron Mountain Road and Alpine Ridge Way in the northwest area of the Las Vegas Valley, and would include covered picnic structures, baseball fields, a children’s play area, open turf areas, a walking path, parking, landscaping, signage, and ancillary amenities.

“The BLM strives to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve,” said Gayle Marrs-Smith, Las Vegas Field Office Manager “We look forward to receiving public input on this proposed park, which would provide recreational opportunities for current and future residents in the northwest Las Vegas Valley.”

The Notice of Realty Action for Classification for Lease and/or Conveyance for Recreation and Public Purposes (R&PP) of Public Lands was published in the Federal Register on July 16, 2018. Interested parties may submit written comments on the suitability of the land for a public park in the City of Las Vegas. Comments on the classification are restricted to whether the land is physically suited for the proposal, whether the use will maximize the future use or uses of the land, whether the use is consistent with local planning and zoning, or if the use is consistent with State and Federal programs. Interested parties may submit comments regarding the proposed decision for the R&PP application and plan of development, whether the BLM followed proper administrative procedures in reaching the decision to lease and convey under the R&PP Act, or any other factor not directly related to the suitability of the land for R&PP use.

The 45-day public comment period began on July 16, 2018 and ends on August 30, 2018.

Interested parties may submit written comments by mail to BLM Las Vegas Field Office, Assistant Field Manager, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130 or via fax to 702-515-5023.
