BLM proposes to sell 87.50 acres in Clark County

Las Vegas – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Las Vegas Field Office, is seeking public comments on a proposal to sell 20 parcels, totaling 87.50 acres of public land in Clark County, Nevada.  The proposed competitive sale would be by sealed and oral bidding in accordance with the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA) and the BLM sales regulations under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act.  A Notice of Realty Action published in the July 9, 2018 Federal Register which opened a 45 day comment period which will close August 23, 2018.        

The sale parcels are located throughout the Las Vegas Valley (Valley).  Nineteen parcels are within Clark County jurisdiction and one parcel is within City of Las Vegas jurisdiction.  Seven of the parcels are located in the northwest part of the Valley near Beltway 215.  Ten parcels are located in the southwest part of Valley, south of Blue Diamond Road.  Two parcels are located in the southwest part of Valley north of West Cactus Avenue and west of Interstate 15.  One parcel is located in the southeast part of Valley south of State Route 146 and east of Interstate 15.

The sale parcels are identified for disposal and have been analyzed through the Las Vegas Disposal Boundary Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of December 23, 2004.  All resource issues have been identified and cleared.  A Determination of National Environmental Policy Act Adequacy number DOI-BLM-NV-S010-2018-0023-DNA for this sale, which tiers to the 2004 EIS, is available for public review and comment.  The sale parcels lie within the approved disposal boundaries established in the Las Vegas Resource Management Plan and Record of Decision on October 5, 1998. 

Sealed-bids must include a deposit of at least 20 percent of the bid amount and a bid guarantee deposit of $10,000 in the form of a cashier’s check, certified check, or U.S. postal money order made payable, in U.S. dollars, to “Department of the Interior – Bureau of Land Management.” 

The parcels would be offered at not less than the fair market value as determined by an appraisal.  The sale by sealed bid and oral public auction will be held on September 27, 2018, at City of North Las Vegas Council Chambers, 2250 Las Vegas Boulevard North, North Las Vegas, Nevada 89030 at 10 a.m., Pacific Time.  The fair market value for the parcels will be announced in local and online media at least 30 days prior to the sale. 

In accordance with the SNPLMA, eighty-five percent of the funds generated by this proposed sale will be used throughout Nevada for projects such as the development of parks, trails, and natural areas, capital improvements on federal lands, acquisition of environmentally sensitive land, and landscape restoration projects.  Additionally, five percent of the revenue goes to the State of Nevada General Education Fund and ten percent of the revenue goes to the Southern Nevada Water Authority.
