RICHFIELD –Consistent with the administration’s priorities of expanding recreational opportunities and enhancing opportunities for volunteer and youth engagement on public land, the Richfield Field Office, announced plans to hold a National Public Lands Day event at the Glenwood Open Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area.  Volunteers are invited to attend the event on Saturday, August 11 at 8:00 a.m.  The Richfield High School Team is working with local businesses to install a competitive mountain bike trail system within the OHV area to increase recreational opportunities to benefit nearby local communities.

“The course is approximately five miles long and will be used for a competitive high school event later this September,” said Field Manager Joelle McCarthy. “To participate, please join the volunteer group by bringing gloves and a sturdy pair of shoes suitable for the outdoors.”  Water and snacks will be provided.  This trail is designed to serve mountain bike groups and other recreational enthusiasts for years to come.

While 95 percent of BLM-Utah public lands are fee-free, the BLM currently manages 77 developed recreation fee sites across Utah. The agency is seeing an increase in recreation visitors, with over 7.9 million visitors in 2017. In addition, recreation activities on public lands contributed $551 million to Utah’s economy in 2016.  For additional volunteer information contact Graydon Bascom at (435) 896-1532.
