WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Winnemucca District will be conducting a wildland fire training exercise in the Water Canyon Recreation Area Thursday, May 25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The road will be blocked off from the second restroom to the upper end of the campground so firefighters can safely and effectively conduct their training.

As new seasonal fire staff start on the Desert Basin Zone (Winnemucca and Battle Mountain districts), the need arises for training exercises that will develop cohesion among the crews, address safety concerns, and get everyone familiar with equipment that will be used during the fire season.  This opportunity also affords fire dispatchers to practice scenarios in a controlled environment.
