The Battle Mountain District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is selling firewood cutting permits, for personal use, at three different locations. These locations are the BLM’s Battle Mountain District Office (Battle Mountain, NV), the Tonopah Field Office (Tonopah, NV), and the Inyo National Forest’s White Mountain Public Lands Information Center (Bishop, CA).

Personal firewood can be collected either as green or dead wood and allow the individual to collect Pinyon Pines and/or Junipers at a cost of $5.00 a cord with an additional $1.00 per cord road maintenance fee. 1-2 cord permits are valid for 90 days after purchase, and 3-5 cord permits are valid for 180 days after purchase. All stipulations governing the permits will be included in the paper work received with the permit. With a personal use permit, up to 5 cords of wood may be purchased. If you want to cut more than that or to cut wood for resale or commercial use, contact your local BLM office and ask about our Commercial Permits. Personal woodcutting is allowed on most Battle Mountain BLM land; contact your local BLM office for more information.

While out cutting please remember to have your permit on you, make sure that you are following all stipulations, and ensure that you are following all recommended procedures/stipulations to prevent wild fires. Also please remember to stay on existing roads and consult your maps to make sure you are on BLM land. Please report any permit violations with as much information as possible (e.g. date, license plate number, detailed location, and directions to area) to the Battle Mountain District Office (775) 635-4000 or to the Tonopah Field Office (775) 482-7800. If you have any questions or comments please call the district office, the field office, or Anna O’Brien at (775) 635-4175.
