Radio Configuration Standards for 2007 Field Season

Instruction Memorandum No. AZ-2007-033

Purpose:  The purpose of this Instruction Memorandum (IM) is to direct all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) offices in Arizona to configure radio user devices according to the standards provided by Washington Office (WO) IM No. 2007-081 (Attachment 1).  Please see the e-mail message from Russell Sveda, Telecommunications Specialist, dated March 21, 2007, with additional information concerning the EF Johnson (Attachment 2).

 

Policy/Action:  By May 1, 2007, each District and Field Office shall configure all non-Law Enforcement radios in accordance with the attached standards.  These standards will remain in effect until October 1, 2007.

 

Direct any waiver or extension requests to Alan Miller, Acting Telecommunications Manager, at 602-417-9227 by April 25, 2007, for consolidation and forwarding to the BLM Radio Manager.  These requests must include all of the required elements for waivers or extension as described in the attachment.

 

Timeframe:  Effective upon receipt.

 

Background:  The 2004 post-fire season comments indicated the need for national radio configuration standards to improve firefighter safety and to make communications support more efficient and effective.
