Program Area: Rangeland Management.
Purpose: This is a request for nominations for the 2020 Rangeland and Sagebrush Steppe Stewardship Awards. These awards recognize the outstanding accomplishments of grazing permittees/lessees and collaborative planning teams involved with public rangeland management. Awards will be given in the categories of “Rangeland Stewardship” and “Sagebrush Steppe Stewardship.” A description of each award and selection criteria can be found in Attachment 1, the 2020 Nomination Process for the Rangeland and Sagebrush Steppe Stewardship Awards.
Nomination criteria will include:
- Demonstration of improvement and/or long-standing maintenance of rangeland resources through conservation stewardship.
- Use of beneficial management practices to restore, protect, and enhance rangeland resources and/or those related to sagebrush steppe habitats.
- Efforts to collaborate and cooperate with other users of public lands.
The 2020 Rangeland and Sagebrush Steppe Stewardship Awards will be presented September 23-26, 2020, at the Public Lands Council’s fall meeting in Seaside, Oregon.
Field managers are encouraged to submit nominations that meet criteria in one or more award categories to their respective state office by June 30, 2020. State offices are encouraged to submit nominations to Brian Thrift (bthrift@blm.gov) in the Division of Forest, Range, and Vegetation Resources (HQ-220) by July 15, 2020. Each nomination must clearly state on the 2020 Rangeland Stewardship/Sagebrush Steppe Nomination Form (Attachment 2) the award for which the nomination is submitted.
Nominations are encouraged to recognize where grazing permittees/lessees and/or collaborative teams have demonstrated new and innovative efforts, but also recognize the efforts of those who have been committed to effective long-standing resource management. Further details on the nomination process and standards for judging nominees are contained in Attachment 1.
Please direct any questions pertaining to these awards to Brian Thrift (HQ-220) at 208-373-3869 or Kimberly Hackett (HQ-220) at 208-373-4089.
