Subject:        Connecting People to Their Public Lands 2017:  Notice of Availability

We are pleased to announce the availability of Connecting People to Their Public Lands, the latest update on the BLM’s education, interpretation, volunteer, and youth employment programs. 

The update highlights outstanding education and engagement programs for students, volunteers, veterans, and the general public, demonstrating the BLM’s commitment to bringing meaningful programs to larger and increasingly diverse audiences.  In addition, profiles of employment initiatives emphasize the important role that young people and veterans are playing in the management of public land resources.

The publication has three parts:

I. National Summaries of the Hands on the Land network of outdoor classrooms for schoolchildren and teachers; publications and online resources for teachers, parents, and young people; Project Archaeology for heritage educators;  interpretive programs and exhibits for the general public at visitor centers and other informal venues; volunteer opportunities on the public lands; and employment programs.

II. State Profiles, one per BLM state, each composed of a 2-page narrative summary of the year’s outreach activities; a "By the Numbers" chart that shows total program participants, volunteer contributed labor (in dollars), and other statistics; and photos that highlight activities the BLM and partners undertake on public land.

III. Numeric Charts that document the state-by-state and combined national impact of BLM’s public engagement initiatives.

The update is currently available online at https://www.blm.gov/documents/national-office/public-room/educational-material/connecting-people-their-public-lands-2017.  A printed copy will be sent to each office in the near future.  Additional printed copies will be available free of charge from the BLM’s Printed Materials Distribution Services (PMDS).  If you wish to obtain additional copies, please ask your office Forms Manager to place an order for you; the PMDS item number assigned to the report is EE9010D.  Offices are encouraged to distribute copies to program managers, volunteers, partner organizations, community leaders, and others.
