The article, entitled "Renewable Energy on the Public Lands: POWERing the Future," describes the growing role of BLM public lands in the development of solar, geothermal, and wind power. One on-the-ground public lands project is highlighted in each category, and instructions for two hands-on activities are included. The article was produced in collaboration with the non-profit Newspapers in Education Institute, which provided publishing and distribution services.The eight-page supplement appeared as a local Washington, D.C., newspaper insert on April 18, 2012, to coincide with Earth Day. It was also made available to additional newspaper outlets for distribution to middle schools and high schools nationwide. The publication, along with a role-playing classroom activity and additional information resources, is also available on the BLM education website, http://www.blm.gov/education. Each BLM office will receive one reprint of the supplement. A limited number of additional reprint copies will also be available through the BLM's Printed Materials Distribution Services (PMDS) in Denver.
