Subject: Fee Waivers for Standard Amenity Fees on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009
Since the 2006 Veterans Day observance, the Department of the Interior and Department of Agriculture have been honoring all United States military veterans and current members of the United States Armed Forces and their families by allowing them free-of-charge admission on Veterans Day to public lands managed by either Agency. The Bureau of Land Management will continue to honor this tradition on the observance of Veterans Day, November 11, 2009.
The fee-free requirement only applies to standard amenity fees, though other fees may be waived if the field office manager deems it appropriate. For accountability purposes and data collection, a zero-value receipt equivalent to a one-day pass may be issued to those visitors whose fee is waived.
When granting a fee waiver on November 11, 2009, fee collectors should include all those who claim eligibility in order to ensure positive customer relationships and service as well as efficient operations. Documentation is not required, and fee collection personnel should not question any visitor’s claim of connection to the military.
