Information Bulletin No. CA-2016-009
To: All CA BLM Employees
From: State Director
Subject: Advisory Safety and Health Committee (ASH)
This Information Bulletin introduces the new CA BLM Advisory Safety and Health Committee (ASH) members. ASH is a state level committee which provides a forum for all employees to bring forward concerns about safety and health in or related to the workplace.
The Code of Federal Regulations (Part 1960) and BLM Handbook 1112-1 provides the foundation and guidance for state-wide safety committees. The committee chairperson was nominated from among the committee members and elected by the committee members. This position alternates between management and non-management members, and the term does not exceed two years. In addition to the chairperson, membership of the committee consists of the State Safety Manager, two Management officials, two Union representatives, and one non-bargaining unit employee. The current committee members are:
- Daryl Avery, State Safety Manager
- Chavez Remijio Jr., Union
- Lilly Greenhalgh, Union
- Elisa Bernal, Non-Bargaining Unit
- Scott Lucas, Fire Management
- Salvador Nieblas, Law Enforcement Management
- Katrina Symons, Management, Chair
Direct committee support will be providedby:
Stephanie McBride, Scribe
The committee meets quarterly to consider state-wide safety issues and make recommendations for resolving those issues. All employees have access to the CA ASH SharePoint Site where meeting minutes and other items of interest are posted. The link to this site is http://teamspace/ca/ASHpub/Forms/AllItems.aspx.
I encourage employees to bring safety and health concerns, along with suggestions for addressing those issues, to the attention of any ASH member, or your district/field office safety committee.
Questions regarding this IB can be directed to Daryl Avery at 916-978-4521 or via email at davery@blm.gov.
