Mikayla Loucks inspires youth in BLM California Redding Field Office

Mikayla Loucks is a Biological Technician Trainee at the Bureau of Land Management California Redding Field Office.  She is currently in college studying fire ecology and land resources management. She also focuses her studies heavily on mitigation, fire succession, botany, and pest management.

She has volunteered in several community events to include plant sales, college farm clean up days and 4-H education, church, and senior care events.

Through her time with Bureau of Land Management Eastern States she has increased her knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) protocol, fuels, and forestry management, and wildlife surveying.  She has enjoyed working on surveying projects in the fire perimeters.

She hopes to motivate others to follow her footsteps by informing her peers to be passionate on what they intend to achieve, to never quit, and to surround oneself with individuals who are passionate about you.

After graduation, she hopes to get a permanent job with the federal or state government in Natural Resources or Fire Ecology. She plans to use her experience to educate the community about fire ecology and mitigation strategies.
