DHA Intern Becomes BLM Eastern States Land Law Examiner
Miles Davis is a West Virginia University graduate who started his journey with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Washington Office June 2018, as an GIS Specialist intern. His course work as a GIS Specialist consisted of creating maps to assist the senior staff. He has analyzed data for coal, fluid minerals, and country boundaries.
On February 2019, he started a new work scope as a Land Law Examiner in the Eastern States Office. As a Land Law Examiner he has learned the adjudication process for case files. He has also had the chance to assist the remote sensing geographer team by doing field work at a mine sight in Salida, Colorado. He has been tasked with processing bonds, assignment of record titles, transfer of operating rights, and updating LR2000 with proper dates and action codes.

The project that he’s enjoyed the most while working with BLM was going out on a field visit to a mine site where he was able to us a drone to record the layout of the full mine site.
Finally after completing the DHA certification and performing exceptionally his duties on October 2019, he began his federal career as a Land Law Examiner in the BLM Eastern States Office.
Miles hopes to motivate others by sharing the great things that the Direct Hire Authority can offer.
