Sept. 16-17: Bureau of Land Management announces upcoming meeting of Southern New Mexico Resource Advisory Council

ROSWELL, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Southern New Mexico Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will host a meeting Sept. 16 and 17, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. The first day of the meeting will be a field trip to see BLM restoration projects and recreation areas. The public is invited to attend both days, but members of the public must provide their own transportation to the field trip. Both an in-person and virtual participation options will be available the second day.

Meeting agenda items include a presentation on dark skies, the BLM’s public lands rule, a discussion of land access issues in southern New Mexico and updates from the BLM Socorro Field Office and the Pecos and Las Cruces District Offices.
Beginning at 3:30 p.m., there will be a 30-minute public comment period for interested members of the public who wish to address the Southern New Mexico RAC. Depending on the number of people wishing to comment, time for individual oral comments may be limited. RACs are critical in assisting BLM with public land management decisions and continuing to serve local communities. The 12-member Southern New Mexico RAC provides advice and recommendations to BLM on resource and land management issues within BLM Socorro Field Office and Pecos and Las Cruces District Offices. RAC members are citizens who represent varied public land interests
